Good Friday…an account

The following is another video produced by the Skit Guys and depicts several accounts of Good Friday.

Good Friday is one of the most significant days in human history. In fact, I would say it is the second most important day in history (with Easter being the first and Christmas the third). This is the day that Christ gave Himself, His life, for us. He surrendered Himself to death on the Cross. By the end of the day, He was dead…dead for the sins of the world…for you and for me. The good news is that the story does not end there, not by far, but today it is important to sit in the power and meaning of the day, the implications this day has for all of us.

As you go forward into this Easter weekend, think about today…think about the sacrifice that was made for you.

The Fight Against

Just a few weeks ago, my family received news that impacted us like no new has before: cancer had entered our immediate family. On November 27th I received the call that my mom had been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Now, I have known other families who have had this tragic news called into their lives, but it is still hard to imagine that it has been brought into my family. I cannot fully remember what I felt in the moment I was told…I remember being in absolute shock and feeling numb that it had happened. In fact, I got into my car and drove the hour and a half straight home to see my mom. We spent some time talking and praying together, with some tears mixed in throughout.

In our desperation and despair, my mom and I did what we knew to be right, although difficult: we turned it over to God. We could sit around forever asking why and trying to blame God for allow this to happen, but what would this accomplish?? When sin entered our world, death and disease entered into humanity, and this cancer is a clear and physical example of this sin and evil. Rather, after my mom and I allowed ourselves a few minutes of pity, we turned it all over to God.

You see, I have total and complete faith that in some way God will use this as a way to bring glory to His name, as well as bring my family closer together. I do not know why this has been brought against my family, and I have prayed to God to not allow me to enter into asking why, for I know that will lead to no good. Instead, I have prayed to Him to give my mom the strength to get through this and to bring people along side her to help her get through this. But more importantly, I have prayed for His will to be done and His plan accomplished.

I pray over this situation every day, and if you feel inclined I welcome your prayers as well. My family is gearing up to face the biggest hurtle we have ever faced together; I know that through the strength that God provides, we will prevail in this fight. We are entering into a period of doctor appointments, referrals , consultations and information gathering as we prepare for the first surgery.

Please join my family in praying over this time. There are so many aspects to something like this to pray for, in addition to God being glorified in some way through this process. Prayers for the doctors, the safety of the surgery  and that the cancer has not spread beyond the lump that was found. God is a miraculous healer, He has shown this time and time again, and I ask now for Him to step in so we can first hand see His power at work.

I seek to surrender this all to God…

He is our Healer…nothing is impossible through Him…

Psalm 23

Thank you for your prayers during this time.

Refuse!…Life Song

This song is one of my daily inspirations and anthems to my life. I absolutely love it and desire to live on out what the words say:

I refuse to stay unchanged
To wait another day, to die to myself
I refuse to make one more excuse

‘Cause I don’t want to live like I don’t care
I don’t want to say another empty prayer
Oh, I refuse

To sit around and wait for someone else
To do what God has called me to do myself
Oh, I could choose Not to move but

I refuse

After listening to this, I want you to just sit and think about it what it may mean to you. You have been called for a purpose and meaning in this life, are you fulfulling this calling or are you just sitting by until others are called to fill in for you?

Personally, I do not want God to have to use others to do what He has called me to do. I am done waiting on the sidelines, I finished making excuses and I will not say another empty prayer. Sure, it would be easier to do these things-to just live simply, not do much and just sit ideally by…but that is not what I, or anyone, am called to do! Seek out the plan in place for you and pursue it…move!

What have you been called to do?

National Day of Prayer

Today, as it is the first Thursday of May, is the nationally-recognized National Day of Prayer.

Personally, I am still surprised that our nation, in all its political correctness and attempt to separate church and state, still allows this day to be observed. However, I am not complaigning and am glad that it has continued to be observed. This is truly a special day, one that reminds us to give thanks to God above and continue to seek His guidence and direction in our lives.

So today, on this year’s National Day of Prayer, I urge you to take a moment and spend it in prayer and reflection. Say a prayer for those around you, for our nation, our leaders and anything else you feel called to pray over. No matter your religion (or lack thereof), you can still partake in this day. Take a moment from the noise and business of life…embrase solitude and silence…reflect on life.

I am thankful for this day and will truly give thanks to God today for all that He has given me and what He has in store for me. However, prayer is more than a once a year tradition…I choose to follow the words to the Lord:

So I want to better myself…as I say it I realize how vague and maybe even a little bit vain that sounds, but it is true. I want to spend time each day working to develop myself in a variety of areas and improve in various aspects of my life. It is important to set aside time to devote to self-improvement…or at least I think so.

Here is what I am going to do: I will be setting aside two hours each day and doing just this. These will not necessarily be two consecutive hours each day, most likely divided up during the course of the day. I will be spending time on things that are good for me and will help to make me a more well-rounded individual. During this time I will be stepping totally away from technology and focusing on different things…yes, this means no Facebook, texting, emailing, anything like that.

You may be wondering what I will be doing during these two hours…and I shall tell you. Essentially, I will be focusing on developing myself physically, mentally and spiritually. My two hours will be spent doing things such as devotionals, research for my book, working out, learning music, spending time in prayer  and doing other similar activities. I do not have it all fully figured out, as it will be different each day.

My motivation basically comes from within me, not from the world around me. I have realized that a desire to better yourself must come from within, not from what people are saying you should be like. I will be working towards things that I want to improve in, things that I want to be better in my life. I want to renew myself and put the focus back on what is really important. I also hope that this new ‘system,’ in a way will help me reset my thinking and focus more on God and His will, not on the will of the world. We shall see what happens!

It’s Your Life…Don’t Waste It

Are you the type of person that looks for something motivate you each day? Well, how about something to motivate your life. Listen to this song….really listen to it. Let is jump start your day, week and maybe even your life.

Lacrae is a Christian rap artists who, in my opinion, puts out some of the most truthful and impactful music out there. You can really hear his feelings, faith and conviction through his words and music. He is one of my favorites.

“Paul said if Christ ain’t resurrect then we waste our lives, well that implies that our life’s built around Jesus being alive…” I have good new for you: JESUS IS ALIVE! That means our lives are not waste, our lives need to be build around Him.

“If you don’t see His ways in my days and nights, you can hit my brakes you can stop my lights, I lost my life.”

He also mentions Luke 12:15-21…Here you go:

15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”16 And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.”’20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ 21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.”

A Promise

To the women reading this, please watch the video below and really listen to what he has to say. There seems to be nothing more that I can add to what he says…please listen.

I will work harder to make the words and message of this simple video my promise to you as well. You are truly strong and beautiful, you are worth everything and deserve only the best we, as men, have to offer.

Praying for you, always.
