Good Friday…an account

The following is another video produced by the Skit Guys and depicts several accounts of Good Friday.

Good Friday is one of the most significant days in human history. In fact, I would say it is the second most important day in history (with Easter being the first and Christmas the third). This is the day that Christ gave Himself, His life, for us. He surrendered Himself to death on the Cross. By the end of the day, He was dead…dead for the sins of the world…for you and for me. The good news is that the story does not end there, not by far, but today it is important to sit in the power and meaning of the day, the implications this day has for all of us.

As you go forward into this Easter weekend, think about today…think about the sacrifice that was made for you.

Palm Sunday- Skit Version

Today is Palm Sunday, a pretty important day within the Christian faith, the day He entered into Jerusalem on a donkey, less than one week before He would die on the Cross.

The Skit Guys put together a video explaining various aspects of the day for us in a fun way with a great message! Check it out…

This week…let’s cover the road to the Cross with our hearts, our souls and our minds as we reflect on the final week of Jesus’ life. And let’s celebrate in anticipation of the return of the King of Kings.

I recently saw an add on TV that caught my attention, as many do. This one, however, seemed to stand out from the rest. Yes, it is about a soda and all that, but the message behind it is powerful. Take a quick watch to these two versions of the ad for yourself, then I will dive in a bit:

So for a moment, set aside the face that this is for Dr. Pepper (however delicious it may be) and think about the general message of the ad…”/1.” The first song says it best, “one of a billion…and that is something beautiful.”

We are each the person we are, and that is the only person we can be. No matter how hard we may try to be someone else, we cannot be. Instead of trying to be someone we are not, we need to embrace who we are and what we can do.

Not only is this the message in this particular ad, it is one of the messages in the Bible as well. We can see this in Psalm 139:14, “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” Even the Bible, God’s Word, tells us that we are all one of a kind.

Embrace who you are, for you are one of a kind, or, as the ad says…. /1.

Enjoy being you!

A powerful spoken word regarding the gospel. Listen to it, really listen to it…but do not just listen, take it in.

Trying to prove God is like defending a lion, it doesn’t need your help…just unlock the cage.

Met ‘Em!

In case you did not know, the Newsboys just happen to be one of my all-time favorite  bands. Their music has helped me through so many different chapters in my life. I have kept up with it as they have changed and adapted over the years, and I always enjoy it. Sure, like most bands, they have gone through some personnel changes but they have been around for decades and their music still echos across the globe Here are a couple examples of their powerful worship music from different periods:

Well, this beings us to this past Saturday, October 6th, a great day indeed! It was similar to most of my Saturdays these days. I got ready to work a concert with 105.3, the local Christian radio station I work for part time. The concert was at Overlake Christian Church and the headliner was the Newsboys, featuring Building 429 and local band The Acclaim.

I had the privilege of leading the promotions teams for 105.3 at the event, which meant leading the Meet and Greet with the headliner..which meant the Newsboys! After some Q&A between the audience and the band, I watch as the 200 M&G attendees stood and had their picture taken with the guys. Once they were all through, I finally got to meet the group that has meant so much to me! Here are a couple pictures from there:

Needless to say, it was a great evening! I have been to several Newsboys concerts, and have even been able to work a couple, but this was by far the best. I got to meet one of my top favorite bands of all time, how could it not have been a great shift??

Forgiveness

One of the hardest things you will ever have to do in your entire life is exercise forgiveness towards someone…yet it can also be one of the most important things you can ever do.

I will be honest, sometimes it is very difficult to say those three words: I forgive you. There have been people in my life who I may not want to forgive, for one reason or another. These are people who have hurt me physically or emotionally, have broken my heart or my body, have changed me in ways I could not have previously imagined…

To these people, I feel called to extend forgiveness. As the songs say, this is very difficult and you often feel like the one loosing when you offer someone forgiveness. However, as the physical and emotional wounds heal, I know that the healing will only be complete once I extend true forgiveness.

I have personal stories of forgiveness, and may share them here at some time. But for now, I encourage you to seek out one of two type of people…first, the people that have wronged you, tell them you forgive them…second, the people you have wronged or hurt in some way-ask them for their forgiveness.

Father- grant me the grace to show these people the forgiveness they deserve. You have forgiven me of all my sins and wrong doings, who am I not to extend this to those who have wronged me? Help too, these people…allow them to learn from their mistakes and work in them to help them be who you want them to be.

I know it will not be easy, but I will do my best to live the words of Matthew 6:14-15For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.  But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. And Matthew 18:21-22 Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, “Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?” Jesus answered, “I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.
